About the Segment

A hugely successful businesswoman, entrepreneur, and civic leader, Pritzker was nominated as United States Secretary of Commerce by President Barack Obama. Pritzker, who was also co-chair of last month’s U.S. Council on Foreign Relations Report, joined CNBC to discuss why advancements in technology are changing labor and career pathways in the U.S. and how future generations can prepare for the jobs of tomorrow.

Her main message from her on-air appearance?

"In the future, we’ve got to have a seismic shift in the way we think about training and education,” Pritzker says, “It’s got to be much more linked to jobs."

The Pathway Solution: Shining the Light on Journeys

In Pritzker’s words, "How do we better connect where an individual is today and give them the easier pathway?"

Among her suggestions, Pritzker highlighted Journeys by saying the following:

"There’s a program called Journeys that helps you know what’s available to you, [and] the various pathways; it’s almost like taking a Google Maps for a career pathway. These are the kinds of things we need to be doing and making more available to more Americans; so they can have the opportunity to enjoy prosperity."
